Sound Culture has been quoted as being one of Chicago’s “savviest cultural players” by the Chicago Tribune, and a “world music concert impresario” by Chicago Public Radio.
Our mission is to organize, produce and present multi-cultural music performances in the city of Chicago by international, and local artists alike in an effort to promote and celebrate ethnic diversity and foster multi-cultural understanding through music.
Since 2009 Sound Culture has produced and presented hundreds of World Music and Jazz music programs of in over 25 venues around Chicago from artists representing over 40 countries. In addition, we’ve also produced 10 years of world music festivals and commissioned 3 new musical projects.
Thanks for helping us build a more Sound culture!
Sound Culture was founded by David Chavez in spring 2009 to fill the void of world music in the larger Chicago arts landscape, as well as address the demand for cultural music programming by an increasing world music fan base.
One year later Sound Culture Center for Global Arts was created to continue this work, with an emphasis on developing outlets for performance by Chicago’s international music groups and ensembles as well as commission new music projects and festivals. In short, the focus of our activity is to put Chicago on the map musically within a larger global context by supporting local international talent, creating new and interesting projects and festivals, and presenting international and nationally touring world music groups in Chicago.
